SECOND CHANCE EMPOWERMENT FOUNDATION FOUNDER TO SHARE HER DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SURVIVAL STORY AT TEEN CONFERENCE

Foundation releases resiliency journal to support survivors this
Domestic Violence Awareness Month

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Elizabeth Siplin, founder and vice president of the Second Chance Empowerment Foundation (SCEF), will share her remarkable journey of surviving a brutal attack by her ex that almost took her life with more than 100 local teens.

Ms. Siplin’s presentation will take place on October 4, 2025, at the Pass the Tea: The Hidden Dangers of Silence event at the Enoch Davis Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. During her program, she will discuss the importance of recognizing the warning signs of abuse and the value of seeking help from a trusted friend or adult.

A living testament to the fact that domestic violence impacts people from all walks of life, Ms. Siplin is a combat-wounded Army veteran, cancer survivor, beloved local pastor, and a successful business owner. Her story demonstrates that abuse can happen to anyone, regardless of their background or achievements.

“It’s never easy speaking about the darkest day of my life,” said Elizabeth Siplin, founder and vice president of the Second Chance Empowerment Foundation. “If my story can help even just one person find safety and escape the storm of domestic violence, my experience will not have been in vain.”

The metaphor of storms to illustrate life’s challenges and traumatizing experiences is a powerful teaching tool that Ms. Siplin often uses in her work. That’s why, in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, SCEF has released Weathering the S.T.O.R.M. (Surviving, Triumphing, Overcoming, Moving Forward), a journal that provides practical tools to help navigate challenging times.

The journal guides users to conduct self-assessments, set realistic goals, and produce life-transforming affirmations that boost confidence and build resiliency. Copies of the journal are available for order from SCEF’s website.
